Our Trails Run on Volunteers!

When there’s multiple trees down on the Dragon Trail, you jump in and help keep the trails running smooth! I grabbed my chainsaw, hopped on my bike and cleared out two trees. As a frequent rider and owner of property that promotes The Dragon Trail, I especially feel a duty to help keep this trail in tip-top shape.

For many years, I never knew how our awesome West Michigan trails were maintained. I just blissfully rode and enjoyed them. Then I found out about the organizations like WMMMBA and MEMBA that oversee the development and maintenance of trails all over West Michigan. I signed up for my first trail day, and it gave me a new appreciation of how much work it takes to keep the trails in pristine riding condition. I’ve always believed in giving back and if I can help make our trails better, I will!

There are multiple ways to get involved and help!

  1. Join a Trail Day! These are scheduled days where large groups of volunteers go out to certain sections of trail to clear debris, trim branches, and reshape trail if need be. It’s a ton of fun to get your hands dirty and enjoy conversation with other cyclists! Keep an eye out for future trail days hosted by us!
  2. Become a member! Your membership dues provide the majority of the budget for each of these organizations! Those fees go toward more trail building, maintenance, and much more. Plus there are some perks for yourself when you join such as discounts for joining a sector of IMBA (International Mountain Bike Association).
  3. Donate! Whether you are a member or not, WMMBA and MEMBA rely heavily on donations to continue their operations and give us fantastic trails!

We are spoiled by the amount of amazing trails we have in the West Michigan area! Let’s keep our trails beautiful for the ourselves and future generations!

See you on the trails!
